Council and Commitees (2)

The UCC is managed by a Council consisting of up to 11 members of the congregation and the Pastor, to make a total of 12.  The officers: president, vice president, secretary and treasurer form the Executive Committee.  Members of the Council are elected at an Annual General Meeting of congregants normally held in March or April each year.

The work of running the church and church programs is delegated to committees and the chairperson of each committee is a member of the Council.

Current Commitees & Their Functions
  • ADMINISTRATION: This committee manages the functions of the church and the employees.  Members make sure the church is complying with government requirements as well as the day-to-day operation of the church
  • BENEVOLENCE: One of the most active of the committees, Benevolence members present to the committee projects they believe are worthy of our support.  If the committee approves then the sponsoring member is the liaison between the institution and the church and as such is responsible for the proper use of any funding approved by the committee.  Additionally support is given to church members ranging from purchasing medicines, paying for medical assistance, and sometimes providing emergency funds.
  • CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: This committee plans the Christian calendar for children’s church, children’s summer program, and adult education.
  • FINANCE: The committee members prepare the church’s budget, and control the churches finances.
  • HOSPITALITY: This committee is in charge of preparing materials to welcome guests to the UCC, brochures, special events such as Sunday lunches, monthly birthday celebration, Community lunches, the traditional community Thanksgiving service and “A Taste of Thanksgiving” lunch, our Christmas Candlelight service, as well as other Christmas and Easter events and more.
  • MAINTENANCE: Is charged with maintaining our 70 year old building and grounds.  With a building of this size and complexity this it is a constant task to keep all systems running.
  • STEWARDSHIP: This committee’s job is not just to raise funds but to make sure those funds are used in the best way and to insure that all is done to protect and maintain the church.  Stewardship also is charged with reaching out to church members to match their special talents with the needs of the church.
  • WORSHIP: Coordinates closely with the pastor on the worship service, the music, organizes ushers and acolytes, and generally makes sure all services both regular and special run smoothly.

We welcome your help in any committee.  God has given each of us special talents; please donate your time and talents to the growth of the United Christian Church.
